Prof. Joydeep Dutta
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sultan Qaboos University, University of Calcutta, Asian Institute of Technology
About
Joydeep Dutta is professor of functional materials at KTH with research focus in the application of nanomaterials for energy and environmental mitigation. A career spanning a little over 30 years, with a year each in Japan and France, a decade in Switzerland (EPFL) and another decade at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand where he was Professor and vice president. Prior to moving to KTH in 2015 he served as the Chair in Nanotechnology at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman for four years. Prof. Dutta is an award winning author (Choice award for Outstanding Academic title of 2010 from American Library Association).
Prof. Dutta has been in academia and in the industries alike. From 1997-2001 he worked in technical and managerial qualities in high technology industries in Switzerland before returning back to academia in 2002. In the last five years, he has spun four start-ups from his research, one of which has gone through private funding and started commercial sales.
Professor Dutta has been working in Planetcare nexus of research encompassing visible light photocatalysis, electrocatalysis of waste water (with focus on degradation of produced water and hospital waste), desalination (capacitive deionization), Green hydrogen production and sustainable food packaging coatings for enhanced shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
Research focus keywords: capacitive deionization, solar photocatalysis, Green H2 production, zinc oxide, microplastics
