About
Chandan Chauhan is a researcher in Pharmacology and Toxicology with expertise in neuropharmacology, neuroinflammation, and translational neuroscience. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow, followed by a Master of Pharmacy (Pharmacology and Toxicology) from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur, where his research focused on the anti-anxiety potential of β-sitosterol. He has submitted his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Raebareli, India.
His doctoral research investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying ischemic stroke, with particular emphasis on the cGAS-STING signaling pathway as a therapeutic target for neuroinflammation and neuronal injury. Using both in vitro and in vivo models of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, he explored the neuroprotective effects of small molecules, including senegenin and 4-octyl itaconate, and their ability to regulate oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and multiple cell death pathways, including apoptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis.
His research interests also extend to traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation. He has established and utilized multiple preclinical models to investigate disease mechanisms and evaluate novel therapeutic candidates. His technical expertise includes animal models of neurological disorders, mammalian cell culture, molecular and cellular biology, immunofluorescence, western blotting, flow cytometry, PCR, confocal microscopy, and preclinical pharmacological evaluation.
He has received fellowships from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, for both his M.Pharm. and Ph.D. studies, qualified GPAT and NIPER-JEE with distinguished All India Ranks, and was awarded the GUFIC Prize at IPSCON 2025 for his research on neuroprotection in ischemic stroke.
His long-term research goal is to advance the understanding of neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders and contribute to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies for neurological diseases.
