About

I hailed from North Eastern States of India, currently working as an Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, Accredited by NAAC with A grade & NBA, New Delhi) Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu for past 12.6 years. I have obtained PG degree in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, Bangalore followed by Ph.D in Life Science (Microbial Biotechnology) from Assam University in collaboration with ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya.

Research Experience:
At ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya, my research work was focused on isolation, identification & molecular characterization of Clostridium perfringens & its lethal toxins from live-stock & poultry. I have pursued training in isolation & identification of Gram positive & Gram negative zoonotic bacterial species from clinical specimens of human & animal. My skills include development of rapid diagnostics with biochemical, immunological & molecular tools & techniques, SEM, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, raising of antisera, immune blotting, PCR, qPCR, SDS-PAGE, MLEE, western & northern blotting, HPLC, FPLC, REA, RAPD, RFLP, PFGE, agarose gel electrophoresis, In-vitro Cell culture, In-Vivo animal model, histopathology, plasmid isolation, gene cloning, expression, sequencing, data mining using bioinformatics approaches.

At ICAR-NIVEDI Bangalore, the major objectives of my research work was on characterization of food & water borne zoonotic pathogens & their virulence studies. I have pursued trained on Class II/Class III biosafety cabinet, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, lyophilisation & bio-repository of infectious agents for Tuberculosis, NTM, brucellosis, atrophic rhinitis, salmonellosis, dermatitis, ulcerative colitis, myonecrosis, bovine mastitis, gastroenteritis including classical swine fever & avian influenza viruses & their molecular diagnostics based on virulence properties.

On-going Research works & training:
At BIT, Sathyamangalam, in continuation with the above research work I have been focusing on extraction, purification, molecular characterization & evaluation of anti-bacterial property of bacteriocin (anti bacterial peptide) molecules from probiotic microbes for bio-preservation & control of bovine mastitis. Extraction & purification of bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical importance. I have established ‘Molecular Diagnostics & Bacterial Pathogenomics Research Laboratory’ jointly sponsored by DST & AICTE with basic facility for food & water testing for microbiological parameter as per Indian Standard. Provided research training for 500+ students in BIT in the area of ‘Molecular Diagnostics & Clinical Biotechnology’ for skilled development, Conducted 50+ workshops, training, seminar, conference, guest lecture, SDP, Summar & Winter Internship. I have guided more than 4 Doctoral Scholars, 18 M. Tech Thesis and 42 B. Tech Thesis.

Awards & Recognition for Research:
My tireless contribution in Research has helped to fetch prestigious awards like ‘Career Award for Young Teacher’ (AICTE, Govt. of India) and ‘Young Scientist Award’ (TNSCST, Govt. of Tamil Nadu), many best paper awards (ISC & ISCA) and best poster awards (IISc.). Majority of the research works were reflected a significant number of peer reviewed journal publications [105] as listed by GOOGLE SCHOLAR (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=sXow_M4AAAAJ) with h index is [10] and SCOPUS (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=55340311700) with citation indexed (h index) [7], & 100+ Conference presentations. More than 73+ Gene sequences submitted, received accession numbers & published in GenBank, USA (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez). Received many research grants and consultancy grants from funding Govt. agencies and Industries. He has been recognized as potential reviewers for many international journals and received memberships from professional bodies.
