Gowtham Ganesan
Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, Hindustan Zinc Limited, Anna University, Chennai
About
Dr. Gowtham Ganesan completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mining in 2012. He worked over six years at Vedanta’s underground lead, zinc, and silver mine, where he successfully managed a wide range of operations. His responsibilities primarily included operational
planning and execution and ground stability control across various domains such as underground excavation, stability assessment of stopes and development headings, drilling and blasting, ground support, mine backfilling, dilution control, health and safety, quality
compliance, ore production, and overall mine services. He demonstrated excellence in project management, process improvement, and stability assessment.
In 2018, he transitioned from industry to research, dedicating five years to the development of anisotropic rock mass characterization and failure criteria for jointed rock masses at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dhanbad. In 2020, he earned a First-Class Mines Manager’s license for both underground and open-pit mining from DGMS.
In mid-2023, he joined WSP India as a Senior Engineer – Rock Mechanics in Mining. He has since been involved in mine engineering and stability projects, as well as numerical modeling in tailings embankments. His areas of expertise include rock mechanics, mine compliance study, numerical modeling, ground control techniques, tunnelling, underground structures design, slope stability, data analytics, and operational research. With a total of 13 years of experience in mining and rock engineering, He brings strong capabilities in planning and execution, proactive problem-solving, numerical modeling, and data-driven decision making.
