About
I am currently a Professor of Geophysics at Department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Powai, Mumbai, India. I joined Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), in Mumbai, as a researcher in 1991. While at IIG, he completed my PhD in Physics with a specialization in electromagnetic induction studies, from University of Mumbai in 1999. Later I accepted the prestigious JSPS postdoctoral fellowship and worked at Research Centre for Earthquake Prediction (RCEP), Kyoto University, Japan, during 2000-2002. I was awarded the visiting scientist position by CNPq of Brazil, and worked at Observatorio Nacional, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during 2003-04, before joining IIT Bombay as a faculty in 2004. I received the prestigious DAAD short-term visiting fellowship and visited GFZ, Potsdam, Germany in 2010. I also supervised several PhD and Masters theses. I organized two national conferences as a convener and also chaired and convened several sessions at various international conferences. I have delivered invited lectures at various national and international conferences. As a lead editor, I published a book on Wavelets and Fractals in Earth System Sciences, in 2013, published by Taylor and Francis group. On invitation from Ministry of Education, Government of India, I served as a mentor and performance auditor for a few Engineering colleges in India. I also have served as a member of several national academic committees in advisory roles. I am the current Vice-Chairman of the Commission on Mathematical Geophysics (CMG) of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG). I am also a member of the student affairs committee of the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG). Currently I am an associate editor for Arabian Journal of Geosciences (A Springer journal). My research and teaching interests include application of nonlinear signal analysis techniques in geophysics, Geo-electromagnetic induction studies and Geomagnetism.
