About
My journey into the captivating realm of science commenced during my formative years, igniting a fervent passion that has profoundly influenced both my academic endeavors and professional aspirations. I earned my undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Botany, and Sericulture from Siddhartha First Grade College in Tumkur in the year 1990, which is affiliated with Bangalore University. In 1993, I proudly earned my M.Sc. degree in Sericulture with First Class from Bangalore University, a field that seamlessly combines my interest in biology with sustainable practices. I then completed my M.Phil. degree with Distinction in Sericulture in 1996, also from Bangalore University, a discipline within biology that emphasizes sustainable practices. Further, I was able to deepen my understanding of the intricacies and nuances within this specialized area of study. The pinnacle of my academic journey was the attainment of a Ph.D. in Sericulture Science in 2003 from Bangalore University. My educational journey was more than earning a degree; it allowed me to explore Sericulture Science and its applications. My passion for biology motivated me, and being awarded a Fellow of the Applied and Natural Sciences Foundation (F.A.N.S.F) is a significant milestone in my career. This recognition reflects my vow to the Natural Sciences and inspires me to pursue further knowledge and invention in the field.
Currently serving as a Research Coordinator at Azyme Biosciences Pvt. Ltd. in Bangalore since 2011, I bring extensive experience in academic and research roles across various institutions. My prior experience includes a lecturer position in the Department of Sericulture at K.G.F. First Grade College from 1994 to 2000, where I contributed to the development of the undergraduate curriculum and instructional strategies. From 2002 to 2014, I worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences (Biotechnology) and Principal at Ganga Kaveri Institute of Science and Management, affiliated with Bangalore University. This role enabled me to gain experience in both teaching and research, with a focus on curriculum development and leadership in academic and administrative roles. My contributions to academic governance include serving as a member of the Board of Examiners for the undergraduate Sericulture program from 1995 to 2000 and the postgraduate Biotechnology program at Bangalore University from 2005 to 2012, respectively. I held the position of Academic Head at EduTel Technologies Private Limited from February to December 2016, where I was responsible for overseeing the academic programs within the division.
My primary areas of research interest encompass plant breeding and genetics, evaluation, plant biochemistry, agricultural biotechnology, environmental science, natural products and medicinal plants, toxicology, heavy metal analysis, mulberry cultivation, and silkworm rearing techniques. I have been recognized as a research guide for the M.Phil. Program by Periyar University in Tamil Nadu, India, where I successfully guided five M.Phil. students. Additionally, I hold the designation of research guide for the Ph.D. Program at Career Point University in Kota, Rajasthan, India. I have actively participated in numerous national and international conferences and seminars focusing on sericulture and life sciences research, presenting a total of 66 research papers and publishing 38 papers in peer-reviewed journals with an impact factor. I serve as a reviewer and contribute to the editorial and advisory boards of several national and international journals. Furthermore, I am a life member of the Indian Science Congress Association, located in Kolkata, India, and a life member of the Applied and Natural Science Foundation (ANSF) in Uttarakhand, India.
In 2010, I acted as a resource person for the preparation of course curricula and e-content in sericulture for the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. In 2009, I served on a board responsible for developing course curricula and syllabi for the sericulture sector, including a specialized curriculum for individuals with visual impairments, concentrating on modular employable skills (MES) under the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India, New Delhi. I have successfully organized a one-day seminar on Recent Trends in Biotechnology, a three-day national conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, a workshop on PCR and Agrobacterium-mediated Transformation, and two iterations of a two-day international conference on Public Mental Health and Neurosciences. Moreover, I have chaired several technical and scientific sessions at both national and international conferences and seminars.
