About

Associate Professor Dr. Vijayapandi Pandy is currently serving in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Health Sciences & Technology, MIT World Peace University, Pune, Maharashtra, India. He earned his B. Pharm degree with first-class honors in 1997 and completed his M. Pharm in Pharmacology, securing the top rank at SCS College of Pharmacy, Harapanahalli, Karnataka, in 2000. He later obtained his Ph.D. in psychopharmacology from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani.

Dr. Pandy's current research focuses on the psychopharmacological assessment of psychoactive natural substances for the discovery of novel drugs aimed at treating nicotine dependence and withdrawal through animal models. He is a life member of several professional organizations, including the Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council, the Indian Pharmacological Society, the Laboratory Animal Scientist’s Association (LASA, INDIA), the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), and the Indian Pharmacy Graduate Association.

With over 20 years of teaching and research experience across India, Malaysia, Libya, and Ethiopia, Dr. Pandy has published 71 research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as one book chapter. Notably, two of his research papers were cited in the World Health Organization's 44th Report on Drug Dependence. He also serves as a reviewer for various national and international journals and has received multiple research grants, including BKP, UMRG, and HIR-MOHE from Malaysia.

In November 2022, Dr. Pandy completed a research project (CRG/2018/000813) as Principal Investigator, receiving funding of ₹34 lakhs from DST-SERB, India. He is also a recipient of the Mahatma Gandhi Samman Award, presented by the NRI Welfare Society in Bangkok, Thailand, on 27 May 2017. He has successfully supervised six Ph.D. and fourteen M. Pharm research projects, and is currently overseeing one Ph.D. and one M. Pharm project.
