About

Research interests:

My research is focused on designing semiconductor nanocrystal solutions for optoelectronic and spintronic applications. I have recently defended my Ph.D. thesis with the title “Investigation of Photo-physics and sp-d Exchange Interaction in Perovskite Quantum Dots: Towards the Development of Novel Optoelectronic and Spintronic Materials.”
Over the last 5 years of my Ph.D., I worked on undoped and doped perovskite quantum dots (QDs) under the supervision of Prof. Ranjani Viswanatha at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, India. I have honed my skills and expertise in several areas. These include colloidal synthesis of perovskite QDs and cryogenic optical, electronic, and magnetic characterization. Additionally, I have gained valuable experience working with ultrahigh vacuum systems, fabricating solar cell devices, and utilizing various spectroscopic techniques.
Following completing a master’s degree in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India, I successfully obtained a Ph.D. position at JNCASR. This opportunity was granted after undergoing a rigorous interview process, and I joined under the guidance of Prof. Ranjani Viswanatha. I secured my fellowship for the Ph.D. research by achieving an impressive all-India rank of 43 out of 5000 students in the national-level entrance examination.
During my Ph.D. under Prof. Viswanatha, I excelled in my first-year coursework, scoring 8 out of 8. Focused on perovskite QDs, I delved into their photo-physics, aiming to unravel fundamental properties and understand host-dopant coupling mechanisms. Our research involved colloidal synthesis methods for lead halide perovskite QDs, exploring growth mechanisms, absorption coefficients, and stability. We uncovered that perovskite QDs grow through self-assembly-driven oriented attachment, affecting dimensional growth and absorption coefficients based on bandgap, not size. Employing steady-state absorption, emission spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and imaging, we advanced conventional methods. To deepen our understanding, we utilized magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy and temperature-dependent gated photoluminescence (PL). Our findings highlighted the sp-d exchange interaction between Mn and the perovskite host, emphasizing energy transfer driven by temperature. Importantly, we discovered that Mn couples with the higher excited state of the conduction band, not band-edge states. Additionally, I explored dual doping (Mn/Sn or Fe/Mn) effects on the host-to-dopant energy transfer and electron back transfer, unveiling a phenomenon termed "Vibrationally Assisted Delayed Fluorescence (VADF)" in lead halide perovskites. This discovery indicated delayed fluorescence, paving the way for potential applications.
