About
Arka Bhattacharya is a doctoral research fellow at the BRIC–National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali, working in the Healthy Gut Lab. His research centers on the development of probiotics and synbiotics to modulate gut microbiota as preventive and therapeutic strategies against metabolic disorders. His ongoing Ph.D. research investigates a novel synbiotic formulation for its efficacy in ameliorating metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
His work integrates advanced in vitro gut–liver co-culture models (Caco-2 and Caco-2–HepG2), in vivo murine models (C57BL/6J), and multi-omics approaches to elucidate host–microbiota interactions, immune modulation, and gut–liver metabolic crosstalk. In recognition of his academic and research excellence, Arka was awarded the CSIR Direct Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) in 2025.
Previously, Arka worked at the ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga, where he led toxicological studies contributing to four undergraduate theses and co-authored multiple patents and peer-reviewed publications. He completed his Master’s degree at NIPER-Kolkata, where he gained extensive hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, PCR and qPCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, and confocal microscopy.
He is also proficient in animal handling and dosing, histological techniques, and immunohistochemistry, and is skilled in computational approaches including molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and bioinformatics analysis. His research has contributed to several publications and patents focused on therapeutic development targeting inflammation and metabolic disorders.
