About
My research is focused on multiple modes of investigation to better understand the molecular mechanisms and implementation of cutting edge tools and technologies to drive drug repurposing into the next step in order to tackle the challenges faced against numerous types of cancers (e.g., breast, lung, liver, and cervical cancers) (Published in Frontiers in Oncology, MDPI-Biomolecues, Life Sciences, Molecules Journals etc.). We aim to elucidate the key molecular mechanisms that could be exploited as inhibitory drug targets in cancer as well as infectious diseases. We have also ventured into omic studies – cancer transcriptomics, human saliva and gut metagenomics – with the goal to demystify the complex host-microbe interactions. My group is also actively engaged in identification and characterization of the novel bioactive agents from photosynthetic and haloarcheal microbial systems – indole (Rdn) and phenol (Rbn) terpenoids (Biotechnology letters, etc.), Crtl carotenoids and CruF bacterioruberin (Science of the Total Environment, etc.), pMAPs, CGs, AVPs, and, AMPs (Protein and Peptide Letters, etc.). Natural products uncovered during our investigations represent valuable new lead agents in the search for novel drugs with potentials as molecular probes/biomarkers to better interrogate and understand in living systems.
I am also broadly interested in functional and sequence specific antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in pathogens and environmental microbiome through machine learning approaches. In addition, we also strongly focused on microbial metabarcoding, sequence encoded molecular functions (SEMF), and metagenomics of natural and build environments (Scientific Reports - npg, FEMS Journals etc.).
