About

Dr. G.P. Obi Reddy obtained his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Geography from Sri Krishnadevaraya University in 1992 and 1966, respectively. He cleared the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the Andhra Pradesh College Service Commission, Hyderabad (1994) and ICAR-NET conducted by Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board, New Delhi (1995) to recruit Scientists under the Agricultural Research Service (ARS). He also obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Hyderabad (1999). He also served as a part-time lecturer in Geography at CVLNR Degree College, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh from 1993-1997.
Dr. Reddy joined in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in the year 1997 and during his 28 years of service, he served as a Scientist, Scientist (Sr. Scale), Sr. Scientist, Principal Scientist and currently working as a Principal Scientist & Head of the Division of Remote Sensing Applications, ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur from January 2023 to till date. Prior to this he served as an In-Charge, GIS Section from 2010-2023. He made outstanding contributions in the field of geospatial applications in digital terrain analysis, landform mapping, land resource inventory, digital soil mapping, soil-landscape modelling, watershed management, agro-ecological studies and land degradation mapping. He significantly contributed in development of BHOOMI Geoportal as a geospatial gateway of the institute for the dissemination of soil and allied information. Currently, as a Nodal Officer from the Department of Agriculture and Education and Research (DARE) Govt. of India for ‘Soil theme’ of National Geospatial Policy, he is working with ICAR and State Agri. Universities to develop a Unified Soil Information System of India (UNSIS).
He has many recognitions in his credit, which include, Vice President, Indian Society of Agricultural Information Technology (INSAIT), Dharwad, 2024 to date, recognized as a Research Guide for PG Programme (Agri.Physics) by the Indian Agri. He served as a faculty for M.Sc and Ph.D students of Dr. PDKV, Akola at ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur, 2006-2020. As an external examiner, he evaluated M.Sc./Ph.D theses submitted to IARI, New Delhi, Jadavpur University, Medinipur & JNU, New Delhi. As an advisory committee member, he has guided 5 Ph.D. and 12 M.Sc. students. He also guided 18 B.Tech/M.Tech students for their internships. On ICAR deputation he visited Sri Lanka, The Netherlands, Nepal and South Africa. As a Course Director he has conducted 15 capacity-building programmes, 2 international and 2 national conferences. He published more than 125 research articles in national and internationally reputed journals, 59 book chapters, 12 technical bulletins and 8 books. He has 4838 Google Scholar citations with an H-index of 32.
Dr. Reddy is a receipt of many prestigious national awards ie., the Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) (2023), Fellow, Indian Society of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning (ISSLUP), Nagpur-2020, Prof. Bandaru Hema Malini Eminent Geographer Award-2021 from National Association of Geographers of India, New Delhi, Outstanding Scientist in Remote Sensing and GIS Award from IJRULA, Tamil Nadu-2018, Outstanding Scientist Award from ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur-2016-17, National Geospatial Award for Excellence-2013 and Indian National Geospatial Award-2007 from the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, for his outstanding contributions in geospatial applications and natural resources management.
