About
Dr. Sudha Arlikatti is a Professor and Head of Research at the Symbiosis Centre for Urban Studies, Symbiosis School of Economics, Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, Pune. She brings with her multi-disciplinary experiences as an Architect-Planner, Disaster Sociologist and academician with over 36+ years in India, USA and the UAE. She holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas), USA in Urban and Regional Science with an emphasis in Environmental Planning and Hazards Management, a Masters in City Planning from I.I.T. Kharagpur (West Bengal, India) and a Bachelors in Architecture from Pune University, (Maharashtra, India).
Her research interests include risk communication and protective action decision making in multi-ethnic communities responding to tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes and biological threats; post disaster sheltering and sustainable housing recovery; individual and organizational resiliency; geospatial technologies for sustainable planning and development; qualitative and quantitative survey designs and field data collection; and ethical issues of social science research.
Dr. Sudha has received funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Texas Department of State Health Services, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, University of North Texas, and most recently in 2025 from the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR).
Her scholarly contributions include 54 peer reviewed journal articles in high impact Scopus indexed journals like Disasters, Disaster Prevention and Management, Natural Hazards Review, Natural Hazards, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Progress in Disaster Science, Risk Analysis, Technology in Society etc.; a monograph and a co-edited book, 16 book chapters, and 15 reports and conference proceedings. She has presented her work at 75+ professional conferences around the world including Australia, Austria, Canada, China, India, Oman, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, U.A.E. and U.S.A.
Through her work Dr. Sudha continues to advance scholarship and policy on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, sustainable planning and community resilience, and inspire the next generation of scholars and practitioners.
