After my Doctorate (in Marine Biotechnology) on molecular characterization of Turbinella pyrum (Indian conch), I worked on gene mining from rumen microbes. In the course of work, we could mine a novel potentially more active phytase gene from buffalo rumen microbiota sequence data. Subsequently, this gene was cloned and incorporated as feed for poultry to improve their nutrient uptake at a lower cost compared to commercial phytases.
Further, I got an opportunity to lead a project as Principal Investigator in the form of National PostDoctoral Fellowship (NPDF) from SERB-DST, Govt. of India. During this, we explored the deep marine sediment (core sampling by customized sampler developed by our team) microbiota from the Gulf of Kutch using conventional and metagenomics approach.
