About
Dr. Ashis Tripathy is currently serving as an Associate Professor (Senior) in the School of Electronics Engineering (SENSE), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, with specialization in Nanoelectronics and Sensor Fabrication, from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also holds an M.Tech. in Instrumentation & Electronics Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and a B.Tech. in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha.
Dr. Tripathy completed his postdoctoral research in wearable sensing technologies at the Centre for Microelectromechanics Systems (CMEMS), University of Minho, Portugal, where his research focused on advanced wearable and flexible sensing technologies for biomedical applications. Prior to joining VIT, he served in various academic and research positions at reputed institutions, including Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, JK Lakshmipat University, and Institute of Technical Education & Research (S’O’A University). He has also worked as a Research Assistant/Investigator at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and CMEMS, University of Minho, Portugal. With more than 11 years of academic experience and over 5 years of research and industrial experience, he has developed a multidisciplinary research profile spanning electronics, sensors, instrumentation, and biomedical technologies.
His research interests encompass sensor technology, instrumentation and measurement, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, wearable nanoelectronics, flexible electronics, embedded systems, and human–machine interface technologies for biomedical applications. His research particularly focuses on the development of advanced sensing platforms, smart and wearable devices, sensor interfacing, and intelligent electronic systems for real-world applications.
Dr. Tripathy has authored 40 research articles in international journals, 6 conference papers, and 1 book chapter, in addition to contributing to 6 published intellectual property/patent outputs. His research has received significant international visibility, with 726 Scopus citations and an H-index of 14. He is currently supervising five Ph.D. scholars working in interdisciplinary areas of electronics, sensors, instrumentation, and emerging technologies.
His academic and research contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards and fellowships. He has received the VIT Research Award in 2023, 2024, and 2025, the Scientist Award from the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM), Sweden, in 2023, and the “Potential Researcher” Award from the University of Minho, Portugal, in 2021. His international research credentials also include the FCT Portugal Fellowship (2019) and the Postdoctoral International Exchange Fellowship at Fudan University, China (2018).
Through his academic, research, and professional activities, Dr. Tripathy continues to contribute to the advancement of smart sensing, wearable electronics, IoT-enabled instrumentation, and intelligent biomedical systems, with a strong emphasis on translating innovative research into practical technological solutions.
