About
Pradip Dey was born in Howrah, West Bengal. He graduated from Presidency College (affiliated to University of Calcutta) with B.Sc in Chemistry (Honors) in July 2008. Then, he received his M. Sc in Chemistry from IIT Kanpur in June 2010. Subsequently, he joined the group of Prof. Rainer Haag at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, where he obtained his Ph.D. (Dr. rer Nat.) degree in October 2015. His Ph.D was on the development of polyglycerol based hydrogels using different biorthogonal crosslinking chemistries such as Cu-free strain promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) reactions for enzyme based biosensor development and cartilage tissue engineering applications. After a post-doctoral stay as DRS Honors Fellow at FU Berlin (Nov 2015-March 2017) working on the development of flexible polyglycerol based nanogels for the inhibition of HSV-1 infection and targeting macrophages, he joined the group of Prof. Suhrit Ghosh at IACS Kolkata, India. At IACS Kolkata (April 2017-Dec 2019), he has studied the self-assembly of amphiphilic polymers. Subsequently, he joined the group of Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro as a post-doctoral fellow at Tel Aviv University, Israel. During his stay at TAU, he developed PLGA based nanoparticles for targeting P-selectin. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Visva-Bharati University, since July 2021. His research interest lies at the interface of chemistry and biology to target cancer and infectious diseases like tuberculosis, malaria and Covid-19 etc using nanomedicine and developing biodegradable 3D-printable hydro/microgels for type 1 diabetes and tissue engineering applications. In September 2022, he was awarded with starting research grant by SERB, India.
