About
Dr. Vaibhav Pandey is a researcher and chemical engineer specializing in sustainable energy systems, heterogeneous catalysis, CO₂ capture and utilization, and methanol synthesis technologies. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Kamal K. Pant and Prof. Sreedevi Upadhyayula. His doctoral research focused on the surface engineering of metal oxide interactions and defect sites for enhanced methanol synthesis from CO, CO₂, and CO-rich syngas in slurry reactor systems.
With a strong academic background, Dr. Pandey completed his M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad in 2018 and obtained his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Anand Engineering College in 2015.
Dr. Pandey’s research expertise spans catalyst design and synthesis, reaction engineering, in-situ and operando spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT) studies, kinetic modelling, and process simulation using ASPEN Plus. His work primarily addresses the development of efficient catalytic systems for sustainable fuel production and carbon-neutral technologies. He has extensive experience with advanced analytical and characterization techniques including XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, DRIFTS, TGA, FT-IR, GC, and chemisorption analysis.
Currently, he is associated with NTPC NETRA, where he is contributing to the development of industrial-scale sustainable fuel technologies. His ongoing projects include the design of a 10 TPD 4G-ethanol production process utilizing captured CO₂ from power plant flue gas and the development of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production unit based on 4G-ethanol feedstock.
Throughout his academic and professional journey, Dr. Pandey has authored several high-impact research publications in reputed international journals such as Sustainable Energy & Fuels, Reaction Chemistry & Engineering, ChemCatChem, and Journal of Molecular Liquids. His research contributions focus on catalytic hydrogenation, methanol synthesis, CO₂ conversion pathways, oxygen vacancy engineering, and advanced solvent systems for carbon capture.
In recognition of his scientific contributions, Dr. Pandey has received numerous honors, including the prestigious Seal of Excellence awarded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) in 2024 and 2025, the Prime Minister Fellowship for Doctoral Research, and multiple research travel awards from IIT Delhi.
Apart from research, he has demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary industrial and academic collaborations, process development projects, and mentoring activities. His long-term vision is centered on advancing sustainable chemical technologies and accelerating the transition toward low-carbon energy systems through innovative catalyst and process development.
