About
Armando Aguayo-Mendoza holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Deusto (Spain), an MSc. in Computer Science (Honours) from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a B.Sc. in Computer Systems Engineering (Honours) from TESCo, Mexico. He has 15+ years of experience spanning cybersecurity, data engineering, causal inference, and AI/ML research across industry, government, and academia.
His career includes roles as a Federal Investigator in Mexico, Department Chair and Research Professor at TESCo, and Data Engineer and ML developer at Information Catalyst (UK), where he contributed to EU H2020 projects including ELASTIC, eFactory, and vf-OS, building edge-to-cloud IoT pipelines and anomaly detection systems for smart manufacturing and transport.
From 2020 to 2025, he served as Scientific Researcher and Work Package Lead at DeustoTech (University of Deusto), leading causal modelling work in the WHY project (residential energy demand forecasting) and simulation/optimisation components in SUMODO (sustainable urban mobility). Results from both projects were adopted by policymakers and municipalities across Europe.
Since 2025, he works as Data Scientist at i4RI, developing behavioural analytics and anomaly-detection pipelines for cybersecurity in IoT, robotics, and aviation environments within the EU TELEMETRY project. He is a member of the Program Committee of the CaDis Workshop on Causal Discovery (2023) and an active contributor to open-source research toolkits in causal inference.
