Shrikant Dora
Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, National Institute of Oceanography, University of Hyderabad, Utkal University
About
Shrikant Dora completed his Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (Physical Oceanography) under the aegis of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, India. His Ph.D. work described the trajectories of the drifters deployed simultaneously in the North Indian Ocean (NIO). He studied the characteristics of loops and eddies identified from drifter trajectories from 1985-2019.
His work involved identifying Sea Surface Temperature (SST) fronts in the NIO from satellite SST data and comparing them with modeled SST fronts. He possesses good programming skills in Python, Matlab, and Fortran as a prerequisite, apart from experience in analyzing, understanding, and interpreting both modeled and satellite data. During his Ph.D., he has written programs in Fortran and Python to identify eddies from the drifter trajectories. He has been working on Barrier Layer Energy associated with Cyclone, using INCOIS flux Mooring data. These experiences have allowed him to develop a multidisciplinary understanding of the ocean.
