After finishing his masters degree program from Indian Institute of Technology, Powai, Mumbai; he joined Chemical Engineering and Process Development Division of National Chemical Laboratory as a Senior Research Fellow. He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry in February 1991 that was awarded by University of Pune and continued on a Department of Biotechnology (DBT) sponsored project on membrane separations as a modeler for three years. Later he joined as a Senior Officer in management cadre in Technical Computing Groups as a support to Process and Project Departments of Gharda Chemicals Limited, Mumbai. He later also worked for the overseas software projects group for over six months. After a short break, he joined as a NSTB post-doctoral fellow in Chemical Engineering Department of National University of Singapore and later continued there as a Senior Projects Engineer in the area of optimization & operations research. After his return to India he joined Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune as a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering Department. He has already completed his three year tenure as Head of Department and Chairman, Board of Studies. He has completed three sponsored projects and is having two on-going funded projects, one funded by University Grants Commission on Artificial neural network based optimization of analytic control systems, and, another one funded by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Extramural Research (EMR) on nonconvex programming applications in chemical engineering. He will be completing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with CEPD of National Chemical Laboratory, Pune as place of research in global optimization of chemical processes by end of January 2014. He has more than twenty papers in International journals and has attended several International Conferences in India. His current research interests are process systems engineering (mainly focusing on process control and optimization) as well as new interests in theoretical topics in materials research (metamaterials, photonic crystals).
