Ekta Baranwal
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, The Right Terminology, Geospatial World
About
I am a geospatial researcher and consultant with over 13 years of multidisciplinary experience spanning geoinformatics, remote sensing, spatial data analytics, and sustainable development. Currently, I am working at the School of Public Policy, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India.
I hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Remote Sensing & GIS) from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where I developed an Independent Component–Based Built-up Index (ICBI) for precise urban feature extraction from satellite imagery.
My research and professional work bridge the domains of Earth observation, environmental monitoring, urban studies, and geospatial policy integration. I have contributed to several national and international projects on geospatial ecosystem readiness, land use and land cover change, biodiversity conservation, and carbon-neutral construction. I have also led strategic research initiatives assessing global geospatial infrastructures and authored multiple peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and technical reports published by international publishers such as Springer, Taylor & Francis, Wiley, and Nova Science.
In addition to my academic and research pursuits, I have served as Industry Manager at Geospatial World, where I supervised cross-functional teams and led global geospatial market research. My broader mission focuses on advancing the use of geospatial intelligence and data-driven science for sustainability, resilience, and informed policy decision-making.
I also hold a lifetime membership in the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS) and am a member of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).
