Dr. Prabhu Dayal Meena is a Principal Scientist (Plant Pathology) and Incharge of Crop Protection Unit at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rapeseed-Mustard Research (formerly ICAR-DRMR), Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. His work primarily focuses on diseases of oilseed Brassica crops (rapeseed-mustard), including Alternaria blight, Sclerotinia rot, white rust, powdery mildew, and downy mildew. Over his career since 1998, he has contributed to sustainable disease management. Dr. Meena's work has over 3,038 citations (h-index 31+), including 120 publications (includs peer-reviewed research papers, review articles, book chapters, and technical bulletins), 16 Books influencing national guidelines for rapeseed-mustard production. He has been managing editor/Chief Editor of Journal of Oilseed Brassica, Indian Phytopathology, Journal of Mycology & Plant Path. Dr. Meena has received multiple prestigious recognitions for his contributions to plant pathology and oilseed Brassica research including the Best Scientist Award (ICAR-DRMR), JF Dastur Memorial Award 2022 of IPS, PR Verma Memorial Award 2022 of ISMPP, Fellow of Plant Protection Association of India (FPPAI), Fellow of Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology (FISMPP), Fellow of Indian Society of Oilseed Research (FISOR), Fellow of Society for Rapeseed-Mustard Research (FSRMR), Fellow of Indian Phytopathological Society (FIPS) and Dr. P.R. Kumar Best Brassica Scientist Award (2012), Brassica Gold Medal 2019, and Life Time Achievement Award (2024) of Society for Rapeseed-Mustard Research. He has been visiting Scientist at Rothamsted Research, UK (2007). Developed location specific weather based forecasting models for Powdery mildew, Alternaria blight, white rust and Sclerotinia rot diseases of rapeseed-mustard. Identified and developed formulation of Trichoderma harzianum isolate GR and aqueous bulb extract (1%) of Allium sativum for effective control of Alternaria blight and Sclerotinia rot of rapeseed-mustard. Studied variability among different geographical isolates of Alternaria brassicae and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum infecting oilseed Brassica. Assessed yield losses caused by Alternaria blight, white rust, Downy mildew and Sclerotinia rot disease in rapeseed-mustard. Developed repository of Alternaria brassicae isolates (30) at ICAR-DRMR, among them 22 isolates (NAIMCC-F-02599 to 02620) deposited in the National repository at National Bureau of Agricultural Important Organism, Mau, UP, India. First report of Nigrospora oryzae (Berk. & Broome) Petch causing stem blight disease of Brassica juncea become threat to rapeseed-mustard (2013). Worldwide new host record of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum on Cannabis indica in Jammu, India (2016). Identified Fusarium equisetii causing collor rot of Indian mustard in Rajasthan, India. Associated in the development of novel trait specific genotypes of Indian mustard including white rust resistant lines viz., DRMR-2019 (INGR17077), DRMR-2035 (INGR17078), and DRMR 2018-37 (INGR 21228) for white rust resistance; DRMRTJ 2016 (INGR 20038) for tetralocular siliquae, long main shoot (119.67 cm), high siliqua density (1.09); DRMR 4001 (INGR 19085) for drought tolerance; DRMR 4005 (INGR 19086) for thermos tolerance at junenile stage coupled with high seed and oil yield; DRMR-WFYSM 15 (INGR 20039) for white flower, yellow seed coat colour, appressed siliqua orientation and RH 1222-28 (INGR22166) for Sclerotinia rot tolerance. Associated in development and licensing of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) varieties including NRCDR-02 (MDOC 43 X NBPGR 36), NRCHB-101 (BL 4 X Pusa Bold), NRCDR-601 (NBPGR 272 X RK 9903), the first hybrid in India of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) variety NRCHB-506 (MJA 05 X MJR 1), DRMR 2017-15 (Radhika) (Ashirwad x DRMR 2486), DRMR 2018-19 (BPM 11) (NRCHB 101 x DRMR 2398) white rust resistant for late sown irrigated condition in zone II, DRMR 2018-25 (BPM 1825) (NRCHB 101 x DRMR 2398) white rust resistant and Yellow Sarson (Brassica rapa spp Yellow Sarson) variety NRCYS-05-02 in India. Identified the critical growth stages of crop was 45 and 75 days after sowing for the Alternaria blight disease development which could be benefited the growers to escape their crops by applying disease control strategies. Thermal death point and variability among Alternaria brassicae isolates was confirmed. Developed a new technique for screening of germplasm and also devise a new rating scale against Alternaria blight in laboratory condition at cotyledonary stage (2016). Management of Alternaria blight disease by application of micronutrients i.e. Zn, S, Cu and lower 3 leaf removal at 40 days of seeding. Developed image based user friendly software for risk analysis, decision support, disease identification and management in rapeseed-mustard.
