About
I am Dr. Varun Pratap Singh (Dr Singh), currently serving as an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in the Mechanical Cluster, UPES, India, and honored to hold the position of Extraordinary Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
With over 15 years of experience spanning academia, research, and industry, I have had the privilege of serving in several leadership roles, including Head of the Centre of Excellence and Head of the Solar Energy Centre. My professional journey has been driven by a passion for renewable energy, mechanical system design, and thermo-fluid applications, focusing particularly on solar thermal technologies.
Throughout my career, I have guided and mentored 100+ undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral scholars, helping them explore innovative research directions and practical solutions.
My passion for solar energy began during my undergraduate, where I graduated as a university rank holder, and deepened during my postgraduation, where I was honored with a Gold Medal. My PhD focused on the thermohydraulic analysis and thermo-economic modeling of solar power systems, an area that continues to form the foundation of my ongoing research.
I am passionate about bridging academia and industry, fostering innovation that translates research into scalable, sustainable solutions. My goal is to contribute toward a cleaner, smarter, and more energy-efficient future, guided by the principles of sustainability, biomimicry, and systems thinking.
Beyond my professional work, I find joy in experimenting with nature, growing plants, swimming, mountain hiking, collecting coins, and exploring new technologies and business ideas. I believe that curiosity, creativity, and compassion are the driving forces behind true innovation.
