About
Dr. Riyaz Ali M. Osmani completed his graduation and post-graduation in Pharmacy from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. He was awarded with Merit Scholarship and Junior Research Fellowship during his graduation and post-graduation by Maharashtra State Government and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, respectively. During the post-graduation, he was engaged in design and development of micro-carrier based novel formulations for acne treatment; which he had achieved overcoming diverse challenges and difficulties. It was there, he began to wonder that how exigent and exciting it would be to work at nano level. This inquisitiveness led him to develop more interest in pharmaceutical nanotechnology.
He pursued his Doctoral Research from the Department of Pharmaceutics, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, Karnataka, India. During his doctoral research, his appetite for nanotherapeutics led him to effort on nanosponge technology. He worked on polymeric nanosponges foreseen as modernistic nanosized carriers; which are trendsetting hyper-crosslinked polymers that are nanostructured within a three-dimensional network.
He continued his Postdoctoral Research at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, and later also served as a Project Research Scientist (Scientist B Cadre) at the same Department. During his service at IITB, he was the Lead Scientist for the Prestigious Global Grand Challenges Project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), USA.
Till date, to his credit he has more than 136 research publications in numerous National and International journals of repute (with cumulative Impact Factor >460), and has authored many book chapters as well as review articles. He has also edited 2 books by the renowned international publishers like Elsevier and Springer. Moreover, he is the reviewer of many esteemed, peer-reviewed, National and International journals. He has been conferred with “Best Ph.D. Thesis Award 2018-19” by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, New Delhi, in recognition of his productive doctoral research. Also, he has been awarded with several International Travel Supports by diverse National funding agencies like ICMR, DST, SERB, DBT, CICS, INSA, CSIR, to list a few. In addition, he has been conferred with various awards and honours for his scientific contributions and services. He is an active member of Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), and life member of Indian Pharmaceutical Graduate Association (IPGA) and Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI). Furthermore, he has many achievements and recognitions at every level of curriculum.
He is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia. His research interests include pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical nanotechnology, nanotheranostics and nanomedicine, microneedle technology, drugs eluting coronary stents, Self-assembled systems based on polymers and lipids, biomedical microelectromechanical systems, pre-formulation profiling, solid state characterization, nanomaterials, polymer grafting etc., to name a few. Despite nanotechnology and nanomedicines being vast research meadows; he takes special interest in developing nanocarriers based novel drug delivery systems for a range of ailments. Beside research, he loves exploring new places, gardening, and reading and writing Urdu poetry.
