About
Dr. Abhinav Sharma is Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at McGill University and Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), where he directs the DREAM-CV Lab (Digital health, Remote monitoring, Evaluation with AI, and Multimodal data for CardioVascular disease). He is Co-Director of the DECIDE-CV Cardiometabolic program (with Dr. Thomas Mavrakanas) and MDCM-PhD Program Director at McGill University.
His research bridges digital health, cardiometabolic medicine, and clinical trial methodology. Active programs include DECIDE-CV (a CIHR-funded multi-centre program scaling evidence-based SGLT2 inhibitor and GLP-1 receptor agonist care in type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease), DEPLOY-HF (multimodal wearable-based population-level heart failure screening), and DECODE-UPF (a national trial network on ultra-processed food exposure and cardiometabolic outcomes). He is a Site Principal Investigator on multiple industry-sponsored heart failure and cardiovascular outcome trials, and Co-Chair of the "Wearables in Cardiovascular Clinical Trials" track at the 23rd Global CVCT Forum (Paris, 2026).
Sharma completed his MD at McMaster University, Internal Medicine residency at McMaster, Cardiology fellowship and PhD (Supervisor: Dr. Justin Ezekowitz) at the University of Alberta, Duke Clinical Research Institute research fellowship (Supervisor: Dr. G. Michael Felker), and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Fellowship at Stanford University. He currently holds an FRQS Junior 2 Chercheur-boursier clinicien award, with funding from CIHR, FRQS, Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Courtois Foundation, and industry partners.
Awards include the Canadian Heart Failure Network Early Career Excellence in Research Award, the AHA Heart Failure Collaboratory Top Principal Investigator Award, the World Heart Federation Salim Yusuf Emerging Leaders Award in Digital Health, and CIHR Outstanding Peer Reviewer designation.
