About

Professor Rintu Banerjee is a distinguished academician, internationally recognized researcher, and technology innovator in biofuel and bioenergy, food biotechnology, enzymology, and sustainable biomass valorization. She is a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and currently serves as the institute's deputy director. In 2024, she achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first woman deputy director of IIT Kharagpur, the first Indian Institute of Technology established in the country, and the first woman administrator as deputy director in the entire IIT system. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she has relentlessly engaged in pioneering research and development in the agricultural biotechnology sector. She has successfully led numerous nationally and internationally funded research projects, secured several Indian and international patents, transferred multiple technologies to industry for commercialisation, and published extensively in high-impact scientific journals. Her visionary leadership, commitment to translational research, and dedication to academic excellence have established her as one of India's foremost scientists in biotechnology and sustainable engineering.
