About
Dr. Saumya Singh is an ERC-CZ postdoctoral researcher (CLARA project) in Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic, investigating the interlinkages of climate extremes and human health. She completed her PhD titled “Impact of Climate Change on Heat Wave over India” under the supervision of Prof. R.K. Mall at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, Banaras Hindu University, India (2019-2024). She holds a masters degree M.Sc. (Tech.) in Environmental Science & Technology and an M.Phil. in Environment and Sustainable Development from BHU. Her research focuses on understanding the Impact of Climate Change on Heat Waves over India, including the evaluation of regional climate models (RCMs) for heat wave simulation and projecting future heat wave trends under various climate scenarios. Her work has identified emerging heat wave hotspots, assessed heat-related mortality (Singh et al., 2021, Int. J. Climatol.), and analyzed RCM and GCM performance for future projections (Singh et al., 2021, Atmos. Res.; Singh et al., 2023, iScience; Singh et al., 2024 Urban Clim.). She has also contributed to interdisciplinary studies involving machine learning, remote sensing, hydrological modelling, and public health impacts of climate extremes.
With over five years of research experience at DST-Mahamana Centre of Excellence in Climate Change Research, Dr. Singh was leading the team both in research and project management activities including proposal writing, documentation of quantitative deliverables, progress presentations to funding agency, coordinated various capacity building initiatives for researchers and stakeholders. She was selected for the prestigious UNITAR Hiroshima Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme (2022–2023) held in Apia, Samoa, supported by the Government of Japan. A strong advocate for gender equality, she actively participates in women empowerment and leadership programs. Her research aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). She has authored 13 peer-reviewed publications including 9 research/review articles (5 lead author; 7 Q1), 3 book chapters, and 1 news and views article. She has received international recognition through awards, travel grants, and scientific contributions acknowledged by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
