About

Professor Shreerup Goswami is a distinguished academic and researcher with an illustrious career spanning over 28 years. He completed his M.Sc. and M.Phil. from Utkal University and pursued advanced research at the prestigious Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, Lucknow, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. While serving this institute, he earned his Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees, marking significant milestones in his academic journey.
Currently, Prof. Goswami serves as Professor, Department of Geology at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar—the oldest and mother university of Odisha. Prior to this, he held esteemed positions as Professor and Head of the Department of Earth Sciences at Sambalpur University and Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Geology at Ravenshaw University, Cuttack.
Prof. Goswami’s expertise encompasses Palaeobotany, Palaeontology, Environmental Geology, Urban Geology, and Acoustic Science. He has successfully led seven major research projects funded by national agencies. His prolific academic contributions include 174 research papers, with over 125 published in SCI/SCOPUS-indexed journals, earning over 3500 citations, an h-index of 31, and an i10-index of 107. He has also authored six books, co-edited two books, contributed 50 chapters to edited volumes, and written 30 popular science articles.
Under his mentorship, 27 research scholars have earned their Ph.D. degrees, and one scholar has been awarded a D.Sc. Additionally, he holds four patents and four copyrights, accentuating his innovative contributions to science.
Prof. Goswami has been recognized with several prestigious accolades:
• BOYSCAST Fellowship by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, enabling him to conduct research on palaeoclimate and climate change at the South African National Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria.
• Post-doctoral research appointments at the Bernard Price Institute for Palaeontology, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and the AEON-Africa Earth Observatory Network at the University of Cape Town.
• Young Scientist Award (2008) by the Odisha Bigyan Academy, Government of Odisha
• Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award (2011) by the Odisha Bigyan Academy for his outstanding scientific contributions.
In both the cases he is first scholar of Geology to get these awards.
• Anil Chandra Award (2024) by the Geological Society of India for his lifetime contributions to Palaeontology.
• Gopinath Mohanty Pratibha Award (2014) by the Bigyan Prachar Samiti for popularizing science in regional languages.
• Fellow, Geological Society of India
• Felicitated by Council of Science and Technology, Chhatishgarh for his contribution in Geoscience.
• Award for Excellence in Climate and Environmental Science (2025) by CEHESH TRUST OF INDIA
