Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Somani is a distinguished academician, researcher, and innovator in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, currently serving as Dean (Research), Professor, and Head of Department (CSE) at Sangam University, Bhilwara, Rajasthan, India. With over 17 years of teaching and research experience and an additional three years in the software industry as a Web Developer, he has established himself as a multifaceted leader in academia, research, administration, and industry collaboration.
Born on 15th September 1983, Dr. Somani holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, M.Tech (IT), MCA, and BCA, reflecting a strong academic foundation. His teaching career began in 2008, and since 2012, he has been an integral part of Sangam University. Alongside, he has contributed as a Guest Faculty at the College of Agriculture, Bhilwara, and the Sangam School of Excellence, extending his expertise to interdisciplinary domains including agriculture informatics and school-level ICT education.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Somani has authored more than 27+ peer-reviewed journal articles, including publications in SCOPUS, SCI, and UGC CARE indexed journals such as International Journal of Computers and Applications (Taylor & Francis), Turkish Journal of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and TuijinJishu Journal of Propulsion Technology. His work spans across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and Digital Education Systems. Notable contributions include AI-powered cancer detection systems, IoT-based livestock and agriculture solutions, cloud task scheduling algorithms, and AI-driven women’s safety applications.
In addition, he has authored and contributed to several book chapters published by reputed international publishers like Taylor & Francis, Springer Nature, and CRC Press, covering topics such as IoT security frameworks, smart agriculture solutions, AI-based healthcare systems, and computational techniques for environmental sustainability. He has also edited academic volumes in the domains of cloud computing and biometric recognition technologies.
Dr. Somani’s innovative mindset is reflected in his 15+ patents, including real-time disaster information systems, AI-based career counseling tools, intelligent crop selection systems, livestock sanitization devices, and cloud-based resource utilization frameworks. Several of his patents have been granted or published both nationally and internationally, marking his significant contribution to applied research and innovation.
As a research supervisor, he has successfully guided more than 10 Ph.D. scholars in areas such as cloud computing, biometric recognition, AI-based examination systems, women’s safety technologies, and IoT-based warehouse efficiency. His research leadership has been instrumental in advancing Sangam University’s doctoral research ecosystem.
Dr. Somani has also been actively involved in funded projects and consultancy. Notably, he led a Hackathon 2.0 project funded by the Ministry of MSME (Government of India) with a grant of INR 15 Lakhs, along with multiple industry-driven website and application development projects.
Beyond research, Dr. Somani plays a pivotal role in academic leadership and capacity building. He has served as SPOC (Single Point of Contact) for prestigious initiatives such as AWS Academy, SWAYAM, NPTEL, Red Hat Academy, Cisco Networking Academy, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Bombay, thereby bridging academia-industry collaborations and enabling student skill development in cutting-edge domains.
His excellence in academics and administration is matched by his active involvement in conferences and journals. He has served as a reviewer, editorial board member, keynote speaker, and session chair at numerous national and international conferences, including those organized by Banaras Hindu University, Chandigarh University, GL Bajaj Institute of Technology, and Springer/IEEE/Elsevier conferences.
Dr. Somani’s contributions have been widely recognized through awards and appreciations. He has received multiple honors from the Ministry of Education (Govt. of India) for his role as a SPOC in Smart India Hackathon, winning recognition at both institutional and national levels. He also received Best Paper Awards at reputed conferences, appreciation from Sangam University’s Board of Management, and recognition from industry forums like Maheshwari Professional Forum and Institute for Academic Excellence, Hyderabad.
Through his sustained efforts, Dr. Somani has contributed to advancing the synergy between AI, IoT, and Agriculture, pioneering research that addresses India’s digital agriculture challenges, healthcare innovations, cloud computing efficiency, and AI-powered security systems. His research not only strengthens academic literature but also demonstrates real-world societal and industrial impact.
