About
Dr. José Menezes was a Tokyo Biochemical Research Foundation (TBRF) post-doctoral fellow with Prof. Hideaki Fujita @ Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagasaki International University, Sasebo, Japan (Oct 2016-Nov 2018) screening natural compounds like flavonoids, saponins, cinnamyl esters, chalcones etc for modulating effects on host restriction factors like BST-2 and MARCH8 for anti-viral therapy. Research interests include the design and synthesis of natural products like chalcones and their bioactivity. José completed his Ph.D. (2009) from Goa University, India and worked on the synthesis of natural products and their derivatives. During post-doctoral work with Prof. José A.S. Cavaleiro at the Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal (2010-2013) they developed synthetic methods for generating derivatives of natural porphyrins like chlorin e6 and protoporphyrin-IX and studied their photophysical properties for applications in photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancers.
