About
Currently, I am working as a Research Assistant Professor at Washington State University, Pullman, WA. Here, I am Working on characterizing a novel triacylglycerol remodeling pathway for accumulating industrially valuable hydroxy fatty acids in Physaria fendleri (Lesquerella). Another project I am working on genes related to self-incompatibility in Physaria fendleri
Before joining WSU, I worked as a Senior Research Investigator at Michigan Tech, MI, investigating temperature-mediated growth control and the dormancy cycle in temperate perennial trees. I also used multiplex CRISPR/Cas9 to study the utility of poplar flowering-time genes to impart strong male and female sterility to mitigate or prevent transgene spread (Nature Communications, 2020; Plant Biotechnology Journal, 2020).
I worked as a scientist in a premier agribiotech company, Jain Irrigation System Limited (JISL), India. I designed studies on understanding flowering time regulation and combined field-level drought and heat stress responses for improved water uptake in fruit crops like banana, pomegranate, and mango (published several papers in peer-reviewed journals).
I worked as a postdoctoral researcher for four years at Umeå Plant Science Centre, Sweden, with Prof. Rishi P. Bhalerao (July 2010 –May 2014). I worked on how environmental signal perceives and transduce to control seasonal growth in perennials. While working with photoperiodic seasonal growth control in perennial trees, we published several papers in top journals (Science, Nature Communications, Current Biology, PNAS).
I did my Ph.D. on the molecular mechanism of tepal senescence in monocot Gladiolus flower (Phytochemistry, 2007 and Postharvest Biology and Technology, 2010).
