Dr. Ajaya Bhattarai is a professor of chemistry at Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, Biratnagar, Nepal. He served on the Tribhuvan University Service Commission as a member for about two years. Also, he served as head of the Department of Chemistry at Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, Biratnagar, Nepal. He received his M.Sc. in physical chemistry from Tribhuvan University in 1998 and his Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from North Bengal University, India, in 2010. He has been working at Tribhuvan University since 2002. Dr. Bhattarai visited the University of Warsaw, Poland, for Erasmus Mundus postdoctoral research in nanomaterials and surface chemistry in 2013.

His current research interests are in polymer chemistry, nanomaterials, surface chemistry, liquid alloys, crystallography, and theoretical chemistry. He served as the Fulbright postdoctoral researcher for "Theoretical Studies on Glass-Forming Liquids" at Boston College in the USA in 2019. He has been featured in the "World's Top 2% Scientists 2023, 2024, and 2025" list by Stanford University, USA.

Ranked within the top 0.9% globally in overall fields (ScholarGPS, 2025). Prof. Dr. Ajaya Bhattarai's academic career demonstrates a sustained commitment to applying chemical sciences to societal challenges. His integrated contributions through research, teaching, innovation, postgraduate supervision, scientific publishing, editorial service, and international collaboration collectively advance multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These activities position him as a leading contributor to sustainable scientific development, inclusive education, and environmentally responsible innovation in Nepal and the global research community.
