Lately, he has been adding to his consolidated expertise in neuromuscular dystrophies, stem cell and gene approaches, a specific focus upon inflammatory pathways and microbiota involvement in muscle disorders.
He has contributed to the foundation of the Stem Cell Interdepartmental Research Center - UNISTEM of the University of Milan (2006) and he is involved in several teaching courses for the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery and Biological and Molecular Sciences at the University of Milan. He has authored over 80 publications on international journals, 10 book chapters and holds a significant reviewer activity for prestigious scientific journals, including Molecular Therapy, Experimental Cell Research, The Journal of Molecular Medicine, The Journal of Biological Chemistry, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, FEBS Letters and The Journal of Cell Biology.
