About
I am a South African structural bioinformatician with four years of postdoctoral experience, specialising in enzyme MD simulations — particularly using residue interaction networks to predict the allosteric effects caused by residue variations and/or binding of ligands.
Areas of skill:
• Protein structure, dynamics, and interactions
• Molecular dynamics simulations and analysis
• Molecular sequence analyses
• Homology modeling
• In silico docking
• Python, R, MATLAB, Linux, Bash, Pymol, VMD, Modeller, DiscoveryStudio, Schrödinger, RCSB PDB, Jupyter, Git, Chimera, GROMACS, Autodock, binding free energy, GWAS, NMA, PCA, FEL, FEP
• High-performance computing
• Scientific/academic writing
• Data analysis
• In silico high-throughput screening for drug discovery
• PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, human and plant pathology, lab work, HPLC
Achievements:
• I have developed Python scripts for MD analysis that have been universally adopted by my current group.
• I have been involved in nine publications in reputable international science journals (five as first author) with over 300 citations.
• I have been awarded the South African NRF scarce skills postdoctoral fellowship and Rhodes University postdoctoral fellowship.
I have a special affinity for science which instills curiosity and enthusiasm for all knowledge. I have incorporated many scientific concepts and ideas into consciousness through dozens of popular science books - ranging from genetics and nuclear physics to astronomy and philosophy - written by the world's most accomplished scientists and thinkers.
I like football, golf, and various other sports. I have been playing guitar for 21 years, the drums for 2, and have had the pleasure of playing in numerous bands, meeting all kinds of people along the way.
