GYANESH KUMAR SATPUTE
Also known as: GK Satpute; Gyanesh Satpute
ICAR - National Soybean Research Institute
About
Dr. Gyanesh Kumar Satpute is currently working in Agricultural Research Service (ARS) as Principal Scientist (Genetics & Plant Breeding) at Indian Institute of Soybean Research, Indore (a sister Laboratory of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) - Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India). Dr Satpute earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Agriculture with specialization in Plant Breeding & Genetics from Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur and his Ph.D. earned from Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Lucknow University, Lucknow. Dr Satpute has started his full time career in 2006 in teaching under-graduate courses along with research on genetic improvement of sesame and linseed under ICAR-All Indian Coordinated Research Projects at Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, College of Agriculture, Tikamgarh and worked for 5 years. He moved to ICAR and joined in Agriculture Research Services as Senior Scientist in 2012. There, he specialized in abiotic stress tolerance improvement with emphasis on drought tolerance in soybean. He has been presented many awards like best paper presentation, travel-grant awards for participating in various scientific assemblies and has won external research grants (ICAR) as Co-Principal Investigator for his research on characterization of soybean GWAS panel for drought tolerance and root system traits. He has also been awarded the postdoc fellowship from Spanish Ministry of Education to work at CSIC-CIB, Madrid. He has been granted an Indian Patent on “A composition useful for hybridization of Palmarosa (Cymbopogan martinii) for increased herbage and essential oil yields”. There are about 30 important research articles published in refereed journals, magazines and reviews articles in books of international repute and has many germplasm accessions with NBPGR database and five released soybean varieties to his credit.
