About
Professor Rakesh Kumar Srivastava received Degree in Electrical Engineering (1983) (JEE 1978), M.Tech. Degree in Electrical Machines & Drives (1985) and Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Machines and drives (Linear Induction Motor) in year (2000) from erstwhile Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The institute became Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) (IIT (BHU)), Varanasi on 28 June 2012. He also holds other educational qualifications like - Diploma in German and has elementary
knowledge of Japanese language. He served different positions of teaching in Pant College of Technology (PCT), Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Engineering, Pantnagar (UK), Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Lucknow (U.P.) and IIT (BHU), Varanasi (India). He was instrumental in developing core Electrical machines laboratory; Power Electronics Laboratory at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow at initial level of development. He is currently serving as Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Machines & Drives at Indian Institute of Technology BHU, Varanasi, he is serving the institute since July 1993. Prof. R. K. Srivastava worked as PI in CARS project for DRDO on “Design Analysis of Electromagnetic Launchers using Linear Induction Motors” and “Linear Induction Motors assisted Electromagnetic Launching of Aircraft System (EMALS) for Navy”. He was also co-PI of many project like MHRD Project 1994-96 “LIM Propelled Material Transport System”, AICTE Project 1997-99 “Development & Evaluation of Low Cost LIM Propelled Rail Metro System”, AICTE, 2000-2002 “MODROB of Electrical Machines Lab” and MHRD project ; AICTE Project, responsible for development of 70 m rail track for wheel on rail (1.0 m) Linear Induction Motor driven electric vehicle. During his doctoral duration, he worked for effect of gap between aluminum and back iron of LIM on its performance. He has published several research papers in International / National Journals and Conference Proceedings. He has authored four books - Electrical Machines, 1/e and 2/e (Cengage (India) Publishers, Delhi) , Problems & Solutions of Engineering Electromagnetic -Hyat &Buck, TMH publications and Electrical Machines 3/e by Springer. He was Convener of 3rd International Conference of IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section on Electrical, Computer and Electronics (UPCON 2016) held at IIT (BHU), Varanasi on 09-11 Dec 2016. Prof. R. K. Srivastava specializations are Electromagnetic field applied to electrical machines, Linear Induction Machines, Special purpose electrical Machines, Permanent Magnets Motors and Generators, Eddy Current Brake etc. and currently working on Design of Hyperloop system. He was Student Councilor, IEEE Students Branch in Banaras Hindu University 2012-2016. He is advisor and originator of IEEE Industry Applications Society Students’ Chapter at IIT (BHU), Varanasi since 2016. Prof. R. K. Srivastava is Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Member IE (I) and Senior Member of IEEE. He acted as Vice Chairman, IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section in year 2016. Apart from these academics, he has visited many foreign countries like, United States of America, Japan and Indonesia.
