Biswadip Das is Professor and Head, Department of Life Science and Biotechnology at Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
• He obtained a PhD in Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata (1996) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester, USA (1997-2006) and served as a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Florida (2006-2009).
• Since 2009, his laboratory studies nuclear mRNP biogenesis and mRNA decay in the nucleus and the molecular factors that contribute the high fidelity in gene expression pipeline and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression involving nuclear mRNA degradation. He has been working in these areas for nearly three decades and contributed significantly in this important area.
• He presented more than 45 invited lectures and published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
• He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, United Kingdom; Indian Academy of Sciences, and West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology.
• He has been awarded the Prof. R. K. Poddar Memorial Oration Lecture by the Department of Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, University of Calcutta (2022), INSA Award for Young Scientist (1999), and a Young Scientist Research Grant from INSA (1999) and Young Scientist Award from International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) (1994).
• He has been serving as an editorial board member in multiple international journals and international experts for review of research grants submitted to the Welcome Trust, UK; Israel Science foundation and Independent Research Fund of Denmark.
• Currently, he leads a group of scientists consisting of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers both Jadavpur University and actively collaborates with scientists across disciplines. His research is well funded by all major national funding agencies.
