About
Dr. Santanu Banik is Head and Principal Scientist (Animal Genetics and Breeding) at ICAR–National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Eastern Regional Station, Kalyani, West Bengal, India. He obtained his B.V.Sc. & A.H. from the West Bengal University of Animal and Fisheries Sciences and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Animal Genetics and Breeding from ICAR–NDRI, Karnal.
With over 20 years of experience in research, teaching, and extension, his expertise includes animal breeding, quantitative and molecular genetics, conservation of indigenous livestock genetic resources, genomic selection, and precision livestock farming. His current research integrates artificial intelligence, computer vision, and genomics for livestock improvement and sustainable animal production.
Dr. Banik has published over 125 research papers, led several nationally funded research projects, developed innovative technologies in livestock breeding and biometric identification, and actively contributes to postgraduate education, scientific journals, and professional societies.
