About
Dr Satish Kumar joined CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh on 10th May 1994. He is currently working as Chief Scientist and ‘Professor’ at the Academy of Scientific and Industrial Research (AcSIR). He is heading ‘Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Sensors and Systems at CSIO Chandigarh. He is also a Coordinator of CSIR-CSIO Chennai Centre and ‘Honorary Faculty’ at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur.
He has worked on various R&D projects as a project leader and has expertise in the area of AI-based Seismic Signal Analytics, Intelligent systems for Automatic Target Detection Systems, Early Warning and Alert systems etc. His area of expertise is – Automatic Target Recognition, Early Warning System, Intelligent Systems, Edge Computing, Embedded System, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Machine Learning, Reconfigurable Systems etc. He is having four copyrights and filed four patents.
He is guiding four PhD students; Four students have already completed PhD and guided about 35 MTech students for their thesis work. He has been conferred various prestigious awards such as Raman Research Fellowship during 2009-2010 to do research work in Germany, First prize in the CSIR Leadership Development Programme 2014, NRDC Meritorious Innovation Award 2015, Transformation Innovation Gold Medal Award 2017, Best Technology Award under Smart City Theme at India International Science Festival (IISc) 2017, Skoch-Order of Merit Award 2017 for Earthquake Warning System, Skoch-Order of Merit Award 2018 for Automatic Target Recognition System, Jury member of Smart India Hackathon (Hardware Edition) – 2018, Jury member for HCL’s Worldwide initiative Technnovations Xchange – Artificial Intelligence 2018-19, Jury member of Smart India Hackathon (Hardware Edition) – 2019 ‘Certificate of Excellence in recognition of work in the field of Disaster Management by Institute of Disaster Management and Fire Sciences, Chandigarh during ‘Surakshhya-K-Sitarey’ programme on 25th May 2019, IETE Hari Ramji Toshniwal Award 2021
He is also a reviewer of IEEE Sensor Journal and Measurement Science and Technology.
He is also a member of ‘Board of Studies’ at UIET, KU and a Board Member of School of Engineering & Technology, Central University Bhatinda. He is a Life member of Indian Society of Systems for Science and Engineering
