About
I am currently working as the Vice Chancellor of Atria University in Bengaluru. Atria University is a private and liberal STEM university that focuses more on project-based learning with the themes of sustainability. Before joining Atria University, I worked as a MOES Distinguished Scientist at the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) in Trivandrum.
After 38 years of service, I retired from Indian government service. From December 2015 to July 2021, I worked as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Prior to that, I was briefly the Director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology in Pune, a premier research institute, specialized in Tropical Meteorology. I was with the India Meteorological Department for 24years (1985-2008) and worked in various capacities such as weather forecasting and climate services, including seasonal forecasting.
I specialize in research on monsoon variability, monsoon forecasting and climate change.
I am a Fellow of all three Science Academies of India and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics, Paris. I am currently an expert member of the WMO Research Board.
