About

Dr. Mir Azad Kalam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Narasinha Dutt College, Howrah. He completed his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Calcutta in 2022, with a thesis titled Culture, Biology and Anthropological Demography: A Study on the Darbhangia Khotta Muslim Population of Malda District, West Bengal. Dr. Kalam has also been awarded the UGC-NET Junior Research Fellowship in 2014.

With over 10 years of teaching and research experience, Dr. Kalam has contributed significantly to the academic and research community. He has supervised several ethnographic field studies among various communities in India, including the Santhal in Jharkhand, the Kumbhakar community in Kolkata, and the fishermen in Odisha. His research interests include cultural anthropology, demography, consanguinity, and socio-cultural transformations in tribal and migrant communities.

Dr. Kalam has published numerous research articles in prestigious journals, such as Scientific Reports, Human Biology, Journal of Biosocial Sciences, Journal of Bioanthropology, and The Oriental Anthropologist. He has presented papers at national and international seminars and conferences, exploring consanguinity, fertility decline, mortality, and cultural heritage. His work has also been featured in newspapers, including The Telegraph India.

He is an active member of professional organizations like the Indian Anthropological Society (IAS) and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).

Dr. Kalam's dedication to teaching, research, and community engagement makes him a prominent figure in the field of anthropology.
