Dr. Jasbir Singh Saini is B.Sc. Engg. (Elect. Engg.) (SILVER MEDALIST) from G.N. Engg. College, Ludhiana (Punjab) under Punjab Univ., Chandigarh; M.Tech. (Topper in Branch) in Control Engg. & Instrumentation from Electrical Engg. Dept., Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), N. Delhi, and Ph.D. in Intelligent Control Techniques & Applications from M.D. Univ., Rohtak, Haryana under the guidance of Dr. M. Gopal (I.I.T., N. Delhi) & Dr. A.P. Mittal (NSIT, N. Delhi).
He has been Professor for about 15 years before superannuating on 30.4.2021 from active service of D.C.R. Univ. of Sci. & Tech. (DCRUST – A NAAC-accredited Univ. of Govt. of Haryana), Murthal, Sonipat, Haryana (India). He held several administrative positions, such as Chairman (i) Elect. Engg. Dept.; (ii) Electronics & Commn. Engg. Dept., (iii) Comp. Sci. & Engg. Dept., (iv) Biomedical Engg. Dept.; Dean, Faculty of Engg. & Tech.; Dean Faculty of Information Tech. & Computer Sci.; Dean of Colleges; Nodal Officer TEQIP-III; Nodal Officer, Procurements; Nodal Officer, Academic Excellence; Chief Warden; besides heading several important Committees. Also was associated as Honorary Adjunct Professor with NCU, Gurugram.
In his teaching career of about 35 years, he taught about 25 different courses at Guru Nanak Dev Engg. College, Ludhiana, Punjab; Punjab Engg. College, Chandigarh; NITTTR, Chandigarh; National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (H.P.), erstwhile C.R. State College of Engg. (A Haryana State Govt. Engg. College), Murthal, Sonepat and at D.C.R. Univ. of Sci. & Tech. (A NAAC-accredited Haryana State Univ.), Murthal, Sonipat (Haryana). He had a brief stint at industry (D.C.M. Engg. Products, Ropar, Punjab, India).
He has over 105 research papers published including in IEEE and SCI-indexed Journals, such as IEEE Trans. on Industry Applications, Journal of Instrument Society of India, IETE Journal of Research, Journal of Institution of Engineers (India), Applied Soft Computing Journal, IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics, etc. and in National & International Confs. He is Reviewer for IEEE Journals & Confs., Elsevier Journals, Arabian Journal of Sci. & Engg., Complexity Journal, Hindawi, etc.
As a student he was awarded the GOLD MEDAL for the BEST ALROUND STUDENT AWARD at B.Tech. for the batch 1979-83. (bestowed once in the Degree (of 4 years) to only one among all the branches). He stood 1st in discipline/ branch despite crediting excess / more than requisite no. of subjects in M.Tech. at I.I.T., New Delhi (1988-89). He stood consistently 2nd in all 4 yrs. of degree & awarded the INSTITUTIONAL SILVER MEDAL & MERIT CERTIFICATES. Awarded the National Scholarship for continuous 6 years (1978-83).
As a professional, he was Awarded the Nation Builder Award by Rotary Int. and Teacher’s Appreciation Award by Rotary Club of Sonipat. He was awarded the High Quality Presentation Award by Systems Society of India, New Delhi; Certificate of Merit by Institution of Engineers, Kolkata for research papers; & the Best Paper Award at an International Conf. at Orlando, USA.
He Guided 10 Ph.D.s., approx. 45 M.Tech. Dissertations; executed 3 AICTE-Sponsored and 2 state-sponsored projects and indigenously developed Experimental Kits, 3 phase loading rheostat & a Pilot Plant. He has been Key Note Speaker and Session Chairman at various conferences.
Drenched with responsibility, integrity and a vision of inclusive growth, he steered the Dept. of Elect. Engg. at DCRUST for about 15 years. His administrative prowess is reflected in start of two M.Tech. programmes and NBA-accreditation of B.Tech. programme under his stewardship. He conducted several FDPs and STCs; his Intensive Workshops & talks on The Art & Science of Learning, Teaching & Research; Work Culture & Work Therapy; Soft Computing; Genetic Algorithms; Fuzzy Logic & Self-tuning Control; Chaotic Systems; Modern Optimization Algorithms; Induction Programmes, etc. have been well-received. He designed approx. 40 courses in emerging areas, reviewed books by renowned authors published by international publishers & contributed Book Chapters of int. publications, edited several Conf. Proceedings and drafted Lab manuals. He has published a Text Book of Measurements and Instrumentation (With Laboratory Experiments) (As per AICTE Model Curriculum) with New Age International (P) Ltd. Publishers, New Delhi.
