About
Dr. Atul V. Wankhade is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT), Nagpur, India—an Institute of National Importance. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, in 2014. Prior to joining VNIT, he served as an Assistant Professor at SMM College of Science Nagpur from 2003 to 2009. He is currently also handling the responsibility of Associate Dean (Exam) at VNIT from January 2026.
He is actively involved in academic and professional activities and currently serves as the Joint Secretary (National Body) of the Indian Society of Analytical Scientists (ISAS). He has significantly contributed to teaching and research, having successfully guided 05 Ph.D. scholars, while 07 doctoral students and 01 postdoc. fellow are presently pursuing their research under his supervision. In addition, he has supervised 22 postgraduate research projects, with 02 currently underway. His research focuses on the development of novel nanomaterials, nanomaterials with tunable morphologies, and nanocomposites for Energy and Environmental applications. His group has developed Novel Silver Zirconate (Ag₂ZrO₃)-based photocatalysts, Ag₂ZrO₃ demonstrated promising performance in visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of environmental pollutants. In addition, his research explores solar-driven Green Hydrogen Generation through photocatalytic water splitting, aiming to develop efficient and sustainable materials for clean energy production.
Dr. Wankhade has also engaged in international research collaboration and academic exposure through a research visit to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, where he interacted with leading researchers and explored advanced research facilities in the field of nanomaterials and energy-related applications. He has authored more than 60 SCI/SCOPUS-indexed research publications and holds 02 patents (Granted) to his credit. His research contributions are reflected in an h-index of 21 and an i10-index of 34, highlighting the impact of his work in the areas of nanomaterials, photocatalysis, and sustainable energy technologies.
