About
Dr. Asmita Wele is the Honorary Professor, University of Debrecen, Hungary. She is full professor and Director Research at College of Ayurveda and Research Center of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune. She was the professor and head of the Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpanavigyan [Ayurveda pharmacology] at College of Ayurveda Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Pune. Her expertise lies in designing and executing of end to end research projects of Ayurvedic formulations. She has been Principal Investigator of DST Project, AYUSH projects, member of AYUSH- IC committee and of the scientific advisory committee of Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar also BoS of BHU, Varanasi. She has delivered over 100 lectures as a resource person in several interdisciplinary workshops, conferences, and on public platforms. She has published over 35 research papers, conference papers and she is a reviewer and associate editor for some indexed journals from Elsevier, Scopus, and PubMed databases. Her areas of special interest are the use of Ayurveda-based natural medicines in Asthma, Cancer, and Neuropsychology apart from her expertise in Ayurveda Drug Development.
In tune with her family legacy of ‘Vaidya’ tradition from Goa, Dr. Asmita has earned her B.A.M.S. and M. D. degrees from the University of Poona. She has completed GCP Training by CDSCO and EC-IRB training by DAIDS supported by NIH. She is an active member of many organizations. She has traveled to Europe, the USA, Africa, Nordic countries, and the Middle East on professional assignments. She was the Ayurveda expert and co-rapporteur for the historic working group meeting for the development of WHO Benchmark documents on Panchakarma, Ayurveda Practice and Training.
