About
Dr. Mohd Aman Khalid is an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Civil Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi (2024) and previously served as an Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at IIT Madras (2024-2025), working on explainable and interpretable data-driven design optimization.
His research sits at the intersection of computational mechanics, structural reliability, optimization, and stochastic modelling, with focus areas including:
a) Reliability-based structural analysis and design
b) Stochastic modelling and uncertainty quantification
c) Structural optimization (RBDO; RDO)
d) Machine learning/data-driven methods applied to engineering
e) Structural dynamics
f) high-dimensional design space visualization
g) AI and digital twins for resilient infrastructure
In 2025, he was awarded the European Commission's Seal of Excellence in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) for his project ARCADIA : Active Reinforced Concrete Infrastructure via AI-Guided Material Adaptation for Climate Resilience, a peer-validated mark of excellence for highly competitive research proposals.
Key achievements:
a) published Indian patent (interpretable self-organizing map framework)
b) 4 international conference presentations (Japan, France, Netherlands)
c) Reviewer for 12 journals, including Reliability Engineering & System Safety (Elsevier), Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics (Elsevier), Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (Springer), International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics (World Scientific), Scientific Reports (Nature) and Journal of Structural Design and Construction Practice (ASCE)
Skills include developing comprehensive mathematical stochastic models, writing custom codes in MATLAB and Python, and optimizing the design of stochastic systems through simulation-based methods.
