About
I joined The University of Manchester as a Research Associate in 2020. In 2022, I was awarded an Early Career Fellowship by the Leverhulme Trust, and I am the Principal Investigator of a three-year research project entitled ‘Landscape, Environment and the People: Ecological Spoils of the Bengal-divide’.
My Leverhulme project focuses on transboundary river basin issues arising from political partition, ecological degradation, and environmental crises in the Bengal Delta. Theoretically, it seeks to develop implementable frameworks for analysing the social–environmental interface in this region and to prepare problem-solving guidelines for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
I am an environmental geographer specialising in freshwater ecosystems, with a research focus on human–water interactions, particularly the spatial, political, and governance dimensions in the Global South. My current research interests include transboundary river basin management, landscape ecology, socio-ecological resilience, hydro-climatic extremes, and the socio-political implications of land-use dynamics in the Global South.
My work combines machine learning, geo-hydrological modelling, and geographical data science to analyse water–societal dynamics. My research has extensively investigated the transformation of human–environment interactions in the Global South following colonisation, as well as during the post-partition and post-independence periods. It intricately weaves together narratives concerning land and water use, the impacts of climate change in the region, and the associated challenges of sustainable development, policy, and governance.
