About

Dr. Romero is medical doctor specialized as a Neurologist in "Hospital 12 de Octubre" in Madrid. He has completed his scientific education with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience (Extraordinary Award from the Madrid Association of Neurology). He has also a master’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology and recently a master’s degree in Neuropsychology. His training and experience are especially focused on Parkinson's disease (PD) with postdoctoral stays in the USA, France, and the UK. Dr. Romero currently works as a full-time professor at the Francisco de Vitoria University and is the main Neurologist of the Brain Injury Unit of the Beata María Ana Hospital in Madrid, where he has a specific outpatient clinic for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. Dr. Romero's lab is actually formed by 6 researchers and is devoted to multidisciplinary research for Neurorehabilitation of Movement Disorders and Brain Damage (GINDAT). http:// bit.ly/38R9jx9 Dr Romero has worked as the manager of the European funded project NEUROTREMOR FP7-ICT-2011-7-5.1(A NOVEL CONCEPT FOR SUPPORT THE DIAGNOSIS AND REMOTE MANAGEMENT OF TREMOR) from 2012 to 2015, where he got a great experience with technological translational research and interdisciplinary coordination. http://bit.ly/3aeWmhB 2 In the 2015 call he is awarded with a National Spanish Grant i+D+I funding (1760000 euros ) for his own research group to carry out the NeuroMOD project (DEVELOPMENT OF THERAPIES AND EVALUATION OF THE CLINICAL EVIDENCE AND MOTOR AND COGNITIVE IMPACT OF THE NEUROMOD SYSTEM) (REFERENCE: DPI2015-68664-C4-3- R). https://bit.ly/3gTJ0Zp This was a three-year project coordinated to test two non-invasive neuromodulation techniques for motor rehabilitation of patients with Parkinson's disease. Within this project, 10 publications indexed in JCR, 10 communications in international congresses, 15 in national congresses, and 16 conferences have been produced to date. The project has been completed with 100% compliance with its milestones and objectives. In the 2020 call he is awarded with his second National Spanish Grant i+D+I funding (1460000 euros) as project leader for the project OASIS Development and clinical validation of a platform based on non-invasive neuromodulation for the detection and control of pain and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease Dr. Romero has also been an external scientific collaborator of the NetMD project (2015-2017). Whose objective was the remote monitoring of Parkinson's and Essential Tremor https://gnec.car.upm-csic.es/project_NetMD.html As a result of his collaboration in the aforementioned projects, Dr. Romero has a solid knowledge both in the field of clinical monitoring of movement disorders and in non-invasive modulation specifically in Parkinson's disease. Dr. Romero has a solid network of international contacts in the field of engineering and data analysis that has produced 47 JCR publications, 34 book chapters, 62 papers in national and international conferences. Besides, he has developed an intense activity in technology transference and scientific diffusion in yearly public financed activities such as “European Night of Researchers” and “Week of science in Madrid” since 2018 http://bit.ly/34DKCSr and has been funded by FECYT for scientific diffusion projects (Neurodivulgaciencia FCT-18-13452) http://bit.ly/34i72IB from which he has published two books ( see CV) A sample of his scientific career is his multiple high-impact publications' production, in addition to more than 50 contributions to national and international congresses during the last ten years.
