About
Dr. Shamsher S. Kanwar, presently Chairman, Department of Biotechnology is a Senior Professor at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla (India). He does research in industrial microbiology/ microbial enzymes, nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry, therapeutics and biocatalysis. He has been working on bacterial/ therapeutic enzymes, their purification, characterization & kinetic studies, enzyme stabilization by immobilization-nanotechnology and potential applications. Dr. Kanwar has guided ~175 students for their Post Graduate degrees in Biotechnology/ Microbiology with dissertation(s), 30 candidates for the Master of Philosophy Degree in Biotechnology and 21 candidates for Ph.D. Degree in Biotechnology. He pursues his research activities by developing bio-products and bio-processes for a variety of extracellular microbial enzymes such as lipase, cholesterol oxidase, oxalate decarboxylase, ribonucleases, L-methionase, alkaline proteases & dye-degrading peroxidases. To assess the antitumor & anticancer activities of purified microbial enzymes [asparagine, glutaminase, L-methionase and ribonucleases] as well as some of the phyto-molecules is one of the dominant fields of research activities of Dr. Kanwar. Dr. Kanwar has published 240 articles including chapters in the books (Published by Elsevier, Willey, Springer, InTech, Frontiers Press, CRC Press, Francis & Taylor etc.) over a research career spanned over >36 years and teaching for >31 years. He has filed six (06) patents, all these have been published, and one of these has been granted. Dr. Kanwar is a certified reviewer of 60 international and national peer-reviewed journals. He is also editor of Current Biotechnology, Frontiers in Human Microbiome, Indian Journal of Microbiology, Trends in Oncology, Journal of Advanced Microbiology, Insight in Enzyme Research and Current Research in Virology & Retrovirology. He has a Research Gate [Research Interest] Score of 4026; Google Citations 6312, H index 34 and I index 102.
