About
Prof. Nithiyananthan Kannan is a senior academician, researcher, and administrator with over 25 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership in the field of Electrical and Power System Engineering. He is currently working as the Dean and Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology (PMIST), Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India.He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Master’s degree in Power System Engineering, and Ph.D. in Power System Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. In recognition of his professional competence and international standing, he was awarded the prestigious Chartered Engineer (CEng) status by the Engineering Council, United Kingdom, in 2016.Prof. Nithiyananthan Kannan began his academic career as a Lecturer at R.M.K. Engineering College, India, and later joined Anna University as a Teaching Research Associate while pursuing his doctoral studies. After completing his Ph.D. in 2004, he worked as an Assistant Professor at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus, UAE, for eight years, gaining valuable international teaching and research experience.He later served as Dean and Associate Professor at AIMST University, Malaysia, where he contributed to academic leadership and quality assurance. He subsequently worked as a Senior Professor at Karpagam College of Engineering, India, and later as a Professor at King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, contributing to teaching, research, and laboratory development.His research interests include Power System Engineering and computer-based applications, with a focus on online power system analysis algorithms. He has published over 100 research papers in reputed Scopus- and SCI-indexed journals, received several research grants, and authored books in Electrical Engineering.Prof. Nithiyananthan Kannan has served as an editorial board member, Ph.D. thesis examiner, and research supervisor. He has organized international conferences, delivered guest lectures, coordinated Faculty Development Programs, and actively participated in NBA, NAAC, EAC, and ABET accreditation processes. He has taught a wide range of UG and PG courses, with recent focus on High Voltage and Power Engineering courses, Design Thinking and AI based modern tool usage for Electrical Engineering.
