About
Dr. Soumen Karmakar is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, Ranchi (Off-Campus Deoghar). His primary research focuses on applying experimental techniques to nonlinear optics, nonlinear dynamics, and chaos, complementing his established background in thermal plasma physics, materials diagnostic instrumentation, and nanomaterial synthesis.
His research foundation was developed through doctoral studies supported by fellowships from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai and the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy, India, in collaboration with Savitribai Phule Pune University. Dr. Karmakar’s technical expertise includes ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems, field emission microscopy, optical emission spectroscopy, and custom thermal plasma reactor engineering. His early work demonstrated arc-plasma gas-phase condensation methods for phase-controlled functional nanostructures, carbon nanotubes, and rotationally misoriented few-layer graphene.
Building on this diagnostic and instrumentation framework, Dr. Karmakar currently investigates deterministic chaos, non-linear optical behavior, and complex wave-matter interactions, supported by a strong publication record across premier international applied physics journals.
