About

Dr. Gautam Anand is currently a Senior Lecturer (and Major Leader) within the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences at Auckland University of Technology. Additionally, he has affiliation with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBTec), AUT. He received his Bachelor of Technology (Honours) degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from India in 2012, followed by Master of Engineering and a PhD. in Engineering from AUT in 2013 and 2017, respectively. He served as a Research Fellow within the Institute of Biomedical Technologies at AUT between 2017 and 2023. Previously, he has also served as a Technology Consultant to Callaghan Innovation (New Zealand), Transducers Scientist at Hemideina Pt. Ltd. (Melbourne, Australia) and Research Fellow at the University of Sydney (Sydney, Australia).
His research focusses on developing multimodal, non-invasive sensing technologies for human physiological monitoring. This includes investigation of physics at skin-sensor interface, biomedical instrumentation design, dielectric characterisation of biomaterials, multiphysics simulations, patient-sensor circuit modelling, sensor development and clinical testing/validation. Specific technologies of interest and expertise include:

Biopotential (ExG) monitoring - Sensors, electronics, signal processing
Bioimpedance measurement - Impedance Cardiography, Impedance Spectroscopy, Impedance Tomography, Galvanic Skin Response
Bioinstrumentation - non-invasive physiological monitoring
Hemodynamics - Blood volume measurement and Pulse Wave Velocity
Biomaterials - Smart polymers, conductive textiles, tissue mimicking phantoms
Modelling - Sensor-patient circuit modelling, computational multiphysics modelling (Ansys, Comsol)
